ABSTRACT

Networking technologies are fast evolving to support the request for ubiquitous Internet access that is becoming a fundamental need for the modern and inclusive society, with a dramatic speed-up caused by the COVID-19 emergency. Such evolution needs the development of networks into disaggregated and programmable systems according to the software-defined networking (SDN) paradigm. Wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) optical transmission and networking is expanding as physical layer technology from core and metro networks to 5G x-hauling and inter- and intra-data-center connections requiring the application of the SDN paradigm at the optical layer based on the WDM optical data transport virtualization. We present the fundamental principles of the open-source project Gaussian Noise in Python (GNPy) for the optical transport virtualization in modeling the WDM optical transmission for open and disaggregated networking. GNPy approximates transparent lightpaths as additive white and Gaussian noise channels and can be used as a vendor-agnostic digital twin for open network planning and management. The quality-of-transmission degradation of each network element is independently modeled to allow disaggregated network management. We describe the GNPy models for fiber propagation, optical amplifiers, and reconfigurable add/drop multiplexers together with modeling of coherent transceivers from the back-to-back characterization. We address the use of GNPy as a vendor-agnostic design and planning tool and as physical layer virtualization in software-defined optical networking.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we study the dynamics of COVID-19 in the UAE with an extended SEIR epidemic model with vaccination, time-delays, and random noise. The stationary ergodic distribution of positive solutions is examined, in which the solution fluctuates around the equilibrium of the deterministic case, causing the disease to persist stochastically. It is possible to attain infection-free status (extinction) in some situations, in which diseases die out exponentially and with a probability of one. The numerical simulations and fit to real observations prove the effectiveness of the theoretical results. Combining stochastic perturbations with time-delays enhances the dynamics of the model, and white noise intensity is an important part of the treatment of infectious diseases.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of irregular unsettling on the smoking model in form of the stochastic model as in the deterministic model these effects are neglected for simplicity.Design/methodology/approachIn this research, the authors investigate a stochastic smoking system in which the contact rate is perturbed by Lévy noise to control the trend of smoking. First, present the formulation of the stochastic model and study the dynamics of the deterministic model. Then the global positive solution of the stochastic system is discussed. Further, extinction and the persistence of the proposed system are presented on the base of the reproductive number.FindingsThe authors discuss the dynamics of the deterministic smoking model form and further present the existence and uniqueness of non-negative global solutions for the stochastic system. Some previous study’s mentioned in the Introduction can be improved with the help of obtaining results, graphically present in this manuscript. In this regard, the authors present the sufficient conditions for the extinction of smoking for reproductive number is less than 1.Research limitations/implicationsIn this work, the authors investigated the dynamic stochastic smoking model with non-Gaussian noise. The authors discussed the dynamics of the deterministic smoking model form and further showed for the stochastic system the existence and uniqueness of the non-negative global solution. Some previous study’s mentioned in the Introduction can be improved with the help of obtained results, clearly shown graphically in this manuscript. In this regard, the authors presented the sufficient conditions for the extinction of smoking, if <1, which can help in the control of smoking. Motivated from this research soon, the authors will extent the results to propose new mathematical models for the smoking epidemic in the form of fractional stochastic modeling. Especially, will investigate the effective strategies for control smoking throughout the world.Originality/valueThis study is helpful in the control of smoking throughout the world.
